The Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia in Songkhla serves the Indonesian community and Indonesia's diplomatic interests across southern Thailand from its office at 19 Sadao Road in the Mueang district of Songkhla province. The post was established under Presidential Decree (Keppres) No. 36 of 1995, formally opening Indonesia's consular presence in this part of the country. Its jurisdiction covers fourteen southern Thai provinces: Chumphon, Krabi, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Narathiwat, Pattani, Phang Nga, Phatthalung, Phuket, Ranong, Satun, Songkhla, Surat Thani, Trang, and Yala, an area that includes several of Thailand's Malay-Muslim-majority southern provinces as well as tourist centers such as Phuket and Krabi.

The consulate's general office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, while its visa section keeps a slightly different afternoon schedule, resuming service at 1:30 PM rather than 1:00 PM. Consular staff handle passport renewals, visa applications, notarial services, and support for Indonesian nationals living, working, or traveling in the region, alongside the routine diplomatic and trade-facilitation functions typical of an Indonesian consulate.

Songkhla itself sits on a narrow peninsula between the Gulf of Thailand and Thale Sap Songkhla, a large lagoon, and has long served as an administrative and trading hub for Thailand's deep south. The choice of Songkhla as a consular seat reflects both its historical role as a regional center and its proximity to the provinces where Indonesian fishing crews, migrant workers, and business travelers are most likely to need consular support.
