About Rumah Budaya Indonesia Tokyo

Rumah Budaya Indonesia is the name Indonesia gives to its cultural houses abroad, a network the Ministry of Education and Culture began building at diplomatic missions in the 2010s to present Indonesian language, arts and heritage to foreign audiences. The Tokyo house is one node in that network, run by the education and culture attache (Atdikbud) at the Indonesian Embassy in Shinagawa, and it works as a programme rather than a separate public building.

Because it operates from within the embassy at Higashi-Gotanda, its activities are organised as scheduled events, classes and exhibitions rather than as a walk-in venue with fixed opening hours. Its purpose is cultural diplomacy running in two directions: introducing Indonesian culture to a Japanese audience, and helping the Indonesian community in Japan keep ties to home.
